Remembering Bonnie Blackburn (1939-2026)

Bonnie Blackburn (1939-2026) was an independent scholar who played a central role in the study of Renaissance music, in North America, the UK, and Europe. Her scholarship was superb. She was a leader in source studies, modern editions of Renaissance music, cultural contexts for music, musical analysis, musical instruments, and the history of music theory. She was also a brilliant editor – of editions of music, of journal articles (for Music and Letters), and books. She was also a kind and gracious person, who helped young scholars get published, shared her deep knowledge of musicology, and was always willing to answer questions. In this session we will hear from some of her closest friends about her contributions to musicology; and we will also invite people attending the session to share their tributes and memories.
