Tradition and Innovation in Turkish Instrumental Music
This performance presents an innovative interpretation of the Classical Turkish Music tradition through an ensemble of kanun (Prof. Dr. Seda Tüfekçioğlu), violin (Semih Özdemir), and oud/guitar (Emir Altuğ Karakaya). While remaining faithful to the essential principles of makam, usul, and traditional performance practice, the program explores new timbral possibilities created by the intersection of these instruments.
Rather than altering tradition, this performance seeks to reveal its expressive richness through contemporary ensemble writing and intercultural musical dialogue. By preserving the stylistic integrity of the repertoire while introducing a distinctive instrumental texture, the concert demonstrates how Classical Turkish Music can engage with new artistic contexts without compromising its historical and aesthetic foundations.
