Reimagining the PhD: The ACLS Doctoral Futures Initiative

Chair: Stacy Hartman (American Council of Learned Societies)

Presenters: Daniel Goldmark (Case Western Reserve University); Danielle Fosler-Lussier (Ohio State University)

The ACLS’s Doctoral Futures Initiative is a three-year project that aims to reimagine humanities PhD programs, describing structures, policies, and practices that will better educate the next generation of scholars and prepare them for both academic and non-academic careers. ACLS Program Officer Stacy Hartman and two members of the Doctoral Futures committees, Daniel Goldmark and Danielle Fosler-Lussier, will present the high-impact practices recommended by Doctoral Futures, including small changes that make a big difference for students. Participants in this session will have the opportunity to discuss and workshop implementation strategies that fit their own institutions and circumstances.
